Auditions scheduled for The Red Velvet Cake War at Wytheville Community College

Auditions for The Red Velvet Cake War at WCC start on Sept. 9

WYTHEVILLE, Va., August 21, 2019 – The worst family reunion ever comes to the Wytheville Community College (WCC) stage this fall in The Red Velvet Cake War by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette are the three outrageous Verdeen cousins, always one step away from catastrophe. This time, they are engaged in a winner-take-all contest to determine who can make the best red velvet cake while simultaneously hosting the Verdeen family reunion and trying to prove to a court appointed psychologist that Gaynelle is not insane. Of course, chaos ensues in this popular comedy, but there are plenty of laughs along the way.

Auditions will be on Sept. 9 and 10, from 6 to 7:30 pm in Snyder Auditorium at the WCC Wytheville location. Auditions are open to anyone in the area, and no previous stage experience is required. There are roles for seven adult women and three adult men. For specific audition information, please check the WCC Theatre Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wcctheatre/. “As always, we will need plenty of production help with this show, including a stage manager and folks to help with publicity, costumes, lights and sound,” says Dr. Janice Pryor, WCC theatre director. “If you want to be involved with a theatre production, but don’t want to be on stage, please help us out behind the scenes.” You can stop by auditions to sign up to help, or contact Pryor at wcctheatre@wcc.vccs.edu.

The Red Velvet Cake War will play Nov. 1-2 and 8-9, with rehearsals two to three evenings per week.
