Wytheville Community College (WCC) recently held a graduation ceremony for its third cohort of Industrial Maintenance students.
The program, designed to certify students in industrial maintenance technology, offers certifications in electrical, mechanical, fluid power, sensors, PLC, and robotics. These students completed a semester-long program and were recognized during a ceremony in WCC’s Snyder Auditorium on December 5, 2024.
Perry Hughes, WCC Vice-President of Workforce Development and Occupational Programs, spoke to the graduates. "Today, we celebrate not only the hard work and dedication of each graduate, but also the families and support systems that have been instrumental in your success. We are proud of you and look forward to seeing you back in the workforce representing WCC,” Hughes said. WCC’s Industrial Maintenance Program works closely with local and regional industries and businesses to provide this training. Over 150 certifications were awarded to this graduating class.
The new cohort for the program begins in February 2025. Neal King, WCC Coordinator of Industrial Maintenance Training, said: “I am so proud to be a part of this opportunity to help provide training for students to get new or better jobs and service the industry in the area. I am excited to see these students succeed by using these new skills.” King mentioned that there are many financial aid opportunities for these students so they may be able to leave the program debt-free.
Students and employers who are interested in the Industrial Maintenance Program or other short-term training classes should contact Lisa Lowe, WCC Workforce Development Credentials and Career Coach, at (276) 223-4717 or llowe@wcc.vccs.edu.
