Wytheville Community College (WCC) along with PBS Appalachia and Blue Ridge PBS announce a special screening of “The Prairie Preacher: Preserving Appalachia’s Grasslands” on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. A panel discussion will follow the screening that will be held on WCC’s Wytheville campus, in Snyder Auditorium, located in Grayson Hall, at 1000 East Main Street, Wytheville.

This event is sponsored by WCC and is free and open to the public. The thirty-minute documentary explores the ever-shrinking Appalachian grasslands and the unique role they play in biodiversity and carbon sequestration. This important story will be told by top researchers from the Southeastern Grasslands Institute led by Dr. Dwayne Estes at Austin Peay State University. The goal is to educate and promote common sense land management throughout Southwest Virginia.

"We are thrilled to join PBS Appalachia in screening this important documentary,” said Dr. Dean Sprinkle, WCC President. "We encourage everyone, including students, faculty, and members of the public, to join us for an evening of insightful cinema.”
