WCC Recognizes Support Staff Emeritus, Betsy Gillman

      Mrs. Betsy Gillman was recently selected as the Support Staff Emeritus of Wytheville Community College (WCC) for 2022. WCC began this recognition in 1997 to honor retired classified staff for meritorious and significant contributions to the college. The recipient is chosen by an Ad-Hoc Committee composed of support staff. Gillman earned a Clerical Arts Certificate from WCC in 1975, and an Associate of Applied Science in Office Systems Technology from WCC in 1999. She began working at WCC in November 1991 and held positions in the Human Resources Department as a Switchboard Operator, Office Services Assistant, Office Services Specialist, Administrative and Program Specialist, Administrative and Office Specialist, and Human Resource Analyst. She retired July 1, 2015, after nearly 24 years of steadfast service. Mrs. Gillman returned to WCC as part-time Administrative and Office Specialist from August 2015 to August 2018.

     During her tenure at WCC, Mrs. Gillman served the college exceptionally well, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. She exhibited a helpful attitude and willingness to assist WCC students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Mrs. Gillman worked professionally and accurately within the regulations of the Department of Human Resources in regard to payroll, absence management, and leave liability. She coordinated the schedule for evaluation of wage employees, complied with the Affordable Health Care Act, and performed other crucial duties. In addition, she played a critical role in the implementation of the Human Resource Management System. Mrs. Gillman actively participated in many aspects of the college, through service on various standing committees including the College Events Committee and through her participation and dedication to the WCC Concert Band, of which she is still a member.
