Veselik’s term begins July 1 and runs through June 20, 2027. The Virginia Genealogical Society, established in 1960, boasts a nationwide membership dedicated to four primary goals: to promote and foster family history education and research; to publish genealogical information; to provide educational opportunities; and to share accumulated knowledge. The society encourages public awareness of family history and fosters research and understanding of genealogy through its publications and activities. After a five-year stint as an award-winning newspaper reporter and managing editor, he became the Public Relations Coordinator for Wytheville Community College in 1989. Following his retirement from WCC in 2015, Veselik was named the Archivist for the F.B. Kegley Library, a position he has held for nearly nine years. He has been an active genealogist and family history researcher for almost fifty years. Genealogical articles written by Veselik have been published in the National Genealogical Society Magazine, the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society Newsletter, and Stirpes, the journal of the Texas State Genealogical Society. His articles on historical events and local families have been published in the Smyth County News & Messenger and the Wytheville Enterprise. He is also the author of The 143rd Regiment: Smyth County’s Citizen Militia. The F.B. Kegley Library, established in 1968, is a local and regional genealogical and historical research center located in the library in Smyth Hall on the WCC main campus.
